I met a girl at summer camp who went to boarding school in Ohio. The girls were given lessons in how to pack a suitcase to avoid wrinkling. (I don't remember the specifics but it involved large quantities of tissue paper and rolling items in terrycloth bath towels.)
I'll bet that girl (who would now be a woman in her early forties) never made any of these rookie packing errors that we have:
1. no underwear (Scott has done this a few times, including on our honeymoon)
2. no belt (Scott again, with a suit on multiple business trips)
3. no pajamas for the kids

4. no diapers or not enough diapers for kids who wear diapers to sleep at night
5. no bathing suit (Grandma, on winter vacation to Lake Tahoe, memorably went into the outdoor hot tub in a flowered bra and panties)
6. no high blood pressure medication for someone who has high blood pressure (family friend who had to spend the better part of a day on a trip out of state riding the city bus to a pharmacy on the "bad side of town")
and...

7. the time Scott tossed a denim slipcover from the couch into the luggage because he saw it hanging out to dry and thought it was a pair of my maternity jeans

I started making my lists for our family vacation (1600 miles away) that we leave for in 18 days. I don't know how folks live without lists....
Oh, ouch on the slipcover! I usually way overpack and don't miss anything, but have trouble fitting it all in.
